Happy Friday,

A wave only breaks once, but the ocean always shapes the shoreline. Likewise, we always learn, but we can only put our mind to a single action in the present moment.

We are at our best when we put our mind to our learning. We cannot measure our Now in comparison with the Past or the Future. When we compare the Now to the past we fail because the past is too often remembered in the “soft light” when things seemed better than the present. When we measure the Now against the dreamed-of-future we fail because the present cannot compete with the aspiration of an imagined possibility.

When we immerse ourselves in the Now – not thinking of the past or the future, then our mind can focus on our learning. We can give our full attention, concentrate, and allow our best learning to come forth.

Learning in the moment produces understanding and growth worthy of praise and gives us the confidence to persevere – to meet the challenge immediately before us. Putting our mind fully to our learning calls for discipline and for circling back. Rereading a passage just read improves comprehension. Revising a sentence just written clarifies communication. Reviewing material already covered deepens understanding. When we allow our learning to circle back and be fully present with the material – we experience the satisfaction of a thing learned well.

I hope this weekend you have an opportunity to put your mind to learning and experience your potential free from the judgment of the past and the future. Every effort we make to learn represents a little piece of who we are – we all deserve the opportunity to feel good about the learning we are doing now.

Peace,

Chris.
